Why install a water meter?

If you know that you use little water or use water saving tips and products, choosing to have a water meter fitted should mean smaller bills.

Severn Trent Water believes that water metering is the fairest way to pay for the water you use - just like your gas and electricity. Most customers use 10% less water once they have a meter installed just because they are conscious of what they use.

Severn Trent Water is hoping to see the number of metered homes increase over the next four years, as people become more aware of the benefits of being water efficient.

Severn Trent Water is trying to save our natural resources and energy for the sake of our environment. The less water we take from our surroundings, the less impact we have on our environment. If we use less water, Severn Trent Water will need fewer chemicals in its treatment and less energy in its distribution - and you will use less energy to heat water in your home.

Financial

As a general rule, single occupants and couples or families living in large houses with high rateable values normally save by having a water meter installed. Most customers use 10% less water once they have a water meter installed just because they are conscious of what they use.

Environmental + Financial = Perfect Sense

Having a water meter fitted won’t cost you anything, but will make you more aware of how much water you use – and that can help you save money. After having a water meter fitted, most find the amount of water they use drops by 10%. This is simply because they become more water efficient and don’t waste water.
