It looks like we might experience better weather this summer (fingers crossed), so what can you do to keep your garden well watered?
Here are just a few tips to keep your garden lush while not wasting water:
- Use a watering can instead of a hose. You can water more accurately so be sure that plants get water where they need it, plus you don't waste water at the same time.
- Water in the evening when the sun has gone out of your garden. This way the water won't evaporate instantly plus, wet leaves can be scorched by the sun.
- Aim the water at the plant's roots so they get the benefit, watering the leaves won't help its growth much.
- Use a mulch like pebbles, bark chippings or grass clippings. It will help keep the moisture in the soil and slow down the beasties too.
- If your lawn turns brown, don't worry about it. It doesn't need watering and will get its green colour back after a good rainfall.
- Don’t cut your grass too often as longer grass holds its moisture better.
